Southern Jersey Club 2012 News

The Five Counties and Southern Club Trophies were presented to the winners of the Herd Competition at the Xmas Lunch held in December 2011. A photographic competition for young people held in 2011 was won by Zoe Clear, aged 11. A trophy donated in memory of Terry Stephens was awarded to Zoe and it is hoped to use the winning photo on notelets or similar which we can sell to raise some funds for charity.

The Annual General Meeting and Dinner was held in April 2012 at the West Grange Hotel, Nr. Newbury.

The Committee were returned en bloc and Michael Pink has agreed to join SJCC’s Committee. Our Chairman, Mike Clear gave an excellent report. He mentioned, with sadness, the loss of John Bunney after a long and bravely fought illness, our thoughts are with Sue and Tracey. Our guests for the evening were Tom and Jean Bradley. Tom, in his capacity as UK Jersey’s President, gave a most interesting and very detailed report on the activities and aspirations of the Society which was much appreciated by the members present at the Dinner.

With regard to future events at the end of July two of our members, Jane & Paul Denley, are holding an open day. Woodlands Jersey Beef are making a name for themselves offering prime quality beef from Jersey steers. Our Five Counties Herd Competition has been arranged for 17th and 18th August by Mr Jeff Daw of Noremead fame. We are hoping to arrange a farm visit in September – venue to be confirmed.

The Southern Jersey Cattle Club AGM has recently been held in April where Chairman, Michael Clear, reported on the past year plus hoping that a membership drive might encourage a few more participants for events and the herd competition.

Two events which members are more than welcome to attend are an Open Day at Peter & Celia Haynes, Meadow Cottage Farm, Headley Down, Bordon on 10th July.

It is hoped to hold the Five Counties Herd Competition again in July in conjunction with the Thames & Isis Jersey Cattle Club.

The 2008 AGM of the Southern Jersey Cattle Club was held on Tuesday 22nd April 2008. 19 people attended.

A proposal was put forward to the members in attendance that the Southern Jersey Cattle Club should put forward the name of Charles Rogers Coltman to become the next President Elect. The members were 100% in favour.

The Southern Jersey Cattle Club Annual Lunch was held on Wednesday 5th December 2007.

Twenty-three people attended including The President of the Jersey Cattle Society, Don Dawes and his wife, Una and Mrs Sheila Knight, Secretary of The South Eastern Jersey Cattle Club.
