2008 Annual Herds Competition
The Ulster Jersey Cattle Club’s annual Herds Competition took place on Tuesday and Wednesday the 23rd and 24th September. [report]

2008 Calf Show
This year’s Calf Show took place on Saturday the 6th September in the Pedigree Sales Arena, Moira. Judging was in the very capable hands of Mr Ricky Barrett from Cork. [report]

2008 AGM
The Ulster Jersey Cattle Club held its AGM in the Chestnut Lodge, Moira.

The evening began with a talk by Mr Nander Robertson representing Glenside Animal Health. Mr Robertson highlighted the benefits of magnetised water to livestock. He also gave a timely reminder of the use of slurry and the importance of soil structure in achieving productive swards.

John Henning congratulates Kensey and Ashley Flemimg on the array of trophies won during the year by their Potterswalls herd.

Following an excellent meal, the business of the AGM and prize distribution got under way. The outgoing Chairman Noel Reid congratulated the members on their success throughout the year and thanked the committee for their help and support during his two year term as chairman. He also thanked Raymond Pogue for providing the guest speaker, John Henning for conducting the election and the Chestnut Lodge for a very enjoyable meal.

Treasurer Elizabeth Croskery gave a detailed report on the club’s continued healthy financial position.

After the presentation of awards the evening was brought to a close by the new Chairman William McCaughern thanking Raymond Pogue and the Northern Bank for their sponsorship of the evening. He also paid tribute to the commitment Noel Reid had given to the UJCC over the past 2 years.

Milk Production Competition
The Jersey Club AGM saw the results of the Milk Production Competition announced.

The Grey Family celebrate their success in the Production Competition

There was an almost clean sweep for the Grey familys Killadeas Herd based near Enniskillen and famous for their Tickety Moo ice cream. They took all 10 places in the cow section and 9 of the 10 in the heifer section.

As the table shows they are achieving phenomenal production of high yields combined with excellent fat and protein.

Annual Charity Table Quiz and Charity Auction
The Ulster Jersey cattle Club Annual Charity Table Quiz and Charity Auction were held recently in the Chestnut Lodge Moira. A number of teams from various breed clubs came along to support the event.

A light-hearted but spirited contest was enjoyed by all with a team led by RUAS President John Kelly coming out on top. After supper the auction got into full swing with guest auctioneer Willie Wilson selling such diverse lots as children's bikes and duck eggs. At the end of the evening the impressive sum of £740 had been raised for this years chosen charity Project Zip.
