JERSEYS SHINE AT BEESTON

A big crowd travelled to Beeston Castle Auction from the Scottish Borders to South Wales and Devon for the sale Jersey cattle on Tuesday 19th April 2005.

There were simply not enough cattle for the large demand from the buyers present with plenty going home without purchasing - all leading to a wonderful trade throughout.

Top price of the day was for a super heifer consigned from Messrs J W & M J Smith, Leicestershire, Woodbine Waits Pinkberry, sired by Rapid Bay Just Wait and from the very successful family tracing back to the Woodbine Princes Newberry (Ex90)

This super long clean dairy heifer that is in calf to Woodbine Masterberry Jedi Knight was purchased for 1500gns by Messrs H P Davies of Colwyn Bay, who also purchased her maternal sister at last year's Spring Sale.

The next top price was for an In-calf Heifer from R Mayall & Daughter, Pimhill Hallmark Courtesy, from their organic herd and in calf for the beginning of May to Paramount; she was purchased by S & S Murray Farms Ltd, Wolverhampton.

Following that was a super In-milk heifer from Osberton Jerseys, Osberton Choice 28th, a real natural milking heifer bred from an (Ex) dam, she calved at the end of February and is giving 25.kg daily. Choice was purchased by Brother Neil, representing Skanda Vale Monastery in Carmarthenshire.

A super maiden heifer from Woodbine realised 510gns. Woodbine Sun Eclipse a daughter of Fairways Designer Govenor was purchased by Messrs DM & PA Scott from Whitchurch.
