A FLYING TRADE FOR THE JERSEY BREED SELLING TO 2200gns
A
fabulous Jersey trade was experienced with all lots keenly
sought at the first Summer Coloured Breeds Sale to be held
at Beeston Castle Auction on Tuesday 26 July 2005.
A good entry of 43 Jersey cattle set the pace for a packed
ring with plenty of buyers in attendance, travelling from far
and wide to be present at the Sale, making the trade
most competitive throughout the day.

The last lot to come under the hammer created a real stir
as Saxown Dukes Blossom (Lot 123) from Osberton Jerseys entered
the ring. A fantastic flashy daughter of Elliotts Renaissance
Duke ET and out of two generations of cows in the top two grades,
and proving most successful herself in the show ring with numerous
prizes to boast about; one being the 1st Junior calf and Honourable
Mention All-Britain calf show 2004. The bidding was electric
and the final bid AT 2200gns was taken, the lucky purchaser
being Smiddiehill Jerseys of Albrighton, Shropshire.
Top priced cow of the day was Braymeadow Junos
Fabulous (VG85-2yr) (Lot 83) from
Smiddiehill Jerseys, this cow freshly calved with her second
and bred from 4 generations of Very Good cows looked wonderful
with a super udder and was yielding 34.8kg daily; she
realised 1700gns to Messrs S & S Murray Farms Ltd of Pattingham,
Wolverhampton.
Another well bred cow from the Smiddiehill stable, took the
next top price of the day of 1200gns; Bluegrass
Masters Snowy (VG89-3yr) (Lot 82) was bred
from 2 generations of cows in the top two grades. She
calved her third calf at the end of May and is now yielding
a massive 38.6kg daily; the lucky bidder was Messrs G M & A
J Harrison, from Leyburn, North Yorkshire. Following
on at 1100gns was a heifer calved in April from Messrs S J
L Roberts of Telford, Shropshire; Wappenburyhall Hetty Natalia
(Lot 104) was a stylish heifer that oozed dairy character and
that looks like she could have quite a future ahead of her.
She was taken by Messrs J & S Arrowsmith, from Elsthorpe,
Lincolnshire.
A super entry of In-Calf Heifers forward on the day with the
top price of 740gns for Hareplain Krackas Cobweb (Lot 119)
from a consignment from Messrs S E Lane & Partners, Kent,
this sweet heifer due mid November was purchased by Messrs
CH & ES Lunt of Hanmer, Whitchurch.
1 Jersey Calf from Messrs J G & C S Bower sold for
220gns and was taken home by Messrs J & S Arrowsmith, Lincolnshire.
