Jerseys attract big premium at Hellifield
Sale
It was standing room only at Green Farm, Hellifield on Tuesday
16th August 2005 when Robert Phillip sold all his Jersey cattle
and the majority of his Holsteins. A tremendous crowd containing
over 70 buyers from as far afield as Devon, Essex, Middlesex,
West Wales and N. Ireland packed into the barn.
As the clock struck 1pm the Jersey herd dispersal commenced
and interest around the ring reached fever pitch. A flying
trade resulted with the Jersey milking herd averaging out higher
than the Holsteins.
Top price was 2,000 guineas paid by S & S
Murray Ltd, from Wolverhampton, who are establishing a top
class herd of Jersey cattle. Hellifield Option Foam VG-85 was
successful at this year’s Gt Yorkshire show and sold
5 months into her first lactation and back in calf to Just
A Few Jude Easton, whose 2 y/o in calf daughter made 1200 guineas
to neighbour David Graveston. Hellifield Easton Eve, already
successful in the show ring will be shown by David’s
daughter Catherine. The Jersey young stock met the trade of
the day with 7 calves at foot averaging £477 with 3 baby
x-bred calves averaging out at £231.
