Buyers from West Cornwall, South West Scotland, Yorkshire and Kent were all present at the Bristol Sales Centre on January 31st 2006 for the dispersal of the Wellhead herd of Jerseys, owned by Ken Timbury Farms, Wendover, Bucks. This well known herd had been highly successful on the show circuit in recent years, as well as being the highest NMR recorded Jersey herd in the country in 2003, and was sold as the owners are ceasing milk production.

The herd had a high concentration of bloodlines, imported from Canada, and the majority of the top priced animals were bred from these families. Top bid was 3,000gs paid by Robert Hunter of the Clydevalley herd, Shotts, Lanarkshire for the milking heifer Wellhead Just Wait Marie, who had won 1st prize in calf heifer at the Royal Show last year. Sired by Rapid Bay Just Wait, she traces to the famous Enniskillen herd in Canada. Her two-month-old heifer calf made 1,000gs to the bid of Peter Prior of Designer Holsteins. Sharing the lorry to Scotland will be Mr Hunter’s 1,500 guinea purchase by the same sire Wellhead Just Wait Rita, due with her second calf in early June to Shamrock Giller and a good prospect for the summer shows.

In keen demand was the recently served heifer Wellhead Rocket Patsy, that had been very successful at the calf shows last year. Out of an imported dam and sired She eventually fell for 2,400gs to Mike Potter of Platinum Jerseys, Stonehouse, Glos, who also gave 1,500gs for the prizewinning third calver Wellhead Blaze Mickie (VG-89). Her daughter by Shamrock Duaiseoir was the top priced in calf heifer, selling to Messrs Beer from Devon for 1,200gs. The imported cow Nabdon Pre Tiffany (VG-88), evinced considerable interest from the ringside, and was finally bought for 2,100gs by Andrew Timbury for his Goodtime herd at Maulden, Bedfordshire.  Biggest volume buyer was Mr.A.Hall who purchased 34 head for his Knockneen herd, near Stranraer.
