Ribblevalley Jersey Herd Sale
Tuesday 22nd August 2006
3 over 3,000 Guineas at Ribblevalley
sale
Parkhouse Farm, Bolton-by-Bowland was a busy place on 22 August
when a large crowd of Jersey breeders assembled for the sale
of all the milking cattle and down-calving heifers from Robert & Catherine
Graveston’s Ribblevalley Jersey Herd.
The sale began with 50 Jerseys, which met the fastest trade
of the day. Virtually every animal attracted bids from 4 or
more people and few milkers fell outside a buoyant 900 to 1300
guinea bracket. Highest price in the Channel Island section
was 1350 guineas, paid by David Backhouse from Driffield, who
was one of the first people on the farm and determined to buy
a good cow. Beechbury Paragons Lollipop VG-85 was fresh with
her second calf having done over 6,000kg 5.40% as a heifer.
The same buyer also acquired Ribblevalley Remake Mellifluous
GP-83 2yr, a fresh calved heifer at 1,200 guineas and Judith
Waring from Cherry Burton, Beverley purchased the top priced
served heifer Ribblevalley Victor Halfheart, whose VG dam made
1,000 guineas earlier, for 1,250 guineas. Nearly half the herd
made 900 guineas or more in a brisk trade.
