Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt held a special sale of Channel Island Cattle following the weekly dairy sale at Taunton Market on Saturday 8th July 2006.

The sale comprised of a Dispersal from Newhouse Farm (Twineham) Ltd Sussex, plus consignments of 13 freshly calved Jersey Cows and Heifers from Chris Salisbury, 4 Pedigree Incalf Heifers from R & J Mann’s “Wotton” Herd and 31 Channel Island and cross Brown Swiss from Messrs KE & SJ Mew from the Isle of Wight.

There was no doubt that the Jersey breed was much in demand.  The sale topped at 1500gns for the well bred incalf heifer “Wotton Sambos Senorita” by the Lester Sambo bull she had a PIN of +£42 and PLI +£44 and was due to the Jersey in September.  She was one of 40 that travelled to Pembrokeshire having been bought by the Morgan family.  The consignment of four averaged £1407.  Chris Salisbury’s calved cows and heifers sold to 1380gns for “Hollesley Solar Dinger” a July calved heifer.  The three cows averaged £703.50 and ten calved heifers £1208.55.

From Keith Mews consignment of 31 non recorded Cows and Heifers it was again the Jersey Heifers that topped the entry reaching 1280gns twice for June calvers.  All those forward averaged £845.

From the herd dispersal of Newhouse Farm (Twineham) Ltd the Jersey’s again topped the entry with 1060gns paid for a November third calver by Danish Bookmark that had been served in May to the Simmental and 1080gns for their only Jersey Incalf Heifer by the Dutch Hollow Berrettas Option bull and due in July.  The 18 Jersey and Jersey x Cows and Heifers averaged £717 compared with 46 Holstein cows that averaged £710
