The pre-sale show was sponsored by The Farmers Guardian and
judged by Ian Cox of Bremridge Farm, Devon who selected the
outstanding fresh Jersey heifer, Grahmar Bomber Cuddle from
Graham and Marion Wallace of Goostrey, Middlewich for his Supreme
Champion.
The cattle were distributed far and wide going to breeders
and commercial milk producers in the Scottish Borders, Cumbria,
Yorkshire, Suffolk, Kent, North and South Wales and Northern
Ireland as well as Cheshire and all its surrounding counties.
The top price was 1900 gns. for the Supreme Champion Grahmar
Bomber Cuddle, sired by WF Brook Bomber, who sold to E.T.Tomlinson & Son
of Rochdale. The next in the price stakes was 1200 gns. for
the Lester Sambo daughter Abbotsley Sambos Excellence from
Roy & Christine Bailey of Ashbourne, who freshened in September
for the first time; she sold to T H Davies of Colwyn Bay. The
only other Jersey to break the four figure barrier was Burnbrae
Remake Leticia from the Shrewsbury based herd of Jack and Barclay
Taylor. This very milky heifer sold for 1000 gns to E & M
Pearce of Whitmore, Newcastle.
In-calf heifers sold to 780 gns. for a very smart black heifer
from Charles Reader’s Barnowl Jersey stud at Brackley,
Northampton selling to J.A & M Greenhalgh, Preston whilst
maiden heifers sold to 700 gns. for the 14 month old heifer
Glenbay Goldman Raven from Michael Haigh, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire
selling to Robert Simpson, Northern Ireland. Calves at foot
sold top 180 gns.for an entry from J G & C S Bower of Hyde.
