Jersey Autumn Colours Sale
A wonderful crowd of enthusiastic Jersey breeders gathered
at Beeston Castle Auction, Cheshire for one of the largest
collective sales of Jersey cattle that has been staged
for some time in this country on Tuesday 18th October
2011. In all some 153 head were catalogued and these
included the first sale to disperse the noted Saxown
Herd, the property of Richard Saxby and family of Skipton,
North Yorkshire; a reduction of the Bar-M Herd from Bar-M
Jerseys of Penkridge, Stafford and a major consignment
of served and maiden heifers from five leading breeders
on the Island of Jersey.
Most of the leading prices came from the Saxown Herd
which has a wonderful reputation within the breed; their
top seller was for the twelve month old Saxown Iatolas
Ferdinand ET, a son of SC Gold Dust Paramount Iatola
and bred from four successive generations of Excellent
dams, his nearest dam being the 10400 kg. Family Hill
Sambo Fern (Ex95) who was All American five year old
in 2007. He sold for export to Jisex International, St.
Lawrence, Jersey.
Next top seller was the stunning Saxown Big Boy Martha
3rd who was Junior Champion at this years Dairy Farming
Event and was carrying a calf to Rapid Bay Reagan. She
sold for 2650 gns to Ashley Fleming acting on behalf
Sheikha Noora Bin Alkhalifa of Bahrain buying for her
Bremridge Farm in Devon.
Also making the trip to Devon were several purchased
by Mark Davis of Tiverton; his top purchase at 2250 gns
was the 8th generation VG/Ex third calver, Shellen Clayton
Skips Prance (VG86).
At 2050 gns was the fresh eighth calver Saxown Excalibur’s
Daylight 3rd CM GM MM (Ex91-5E). She calved just over
a week before the sale and looked superb; she sold in
a three way split between Glanmor Jerseys of Carmarthen,
James Warren of Cornwall and S & PC Bland of Penrith,
Cumbria.
The fourth calf Saxown Just Éclair 7th CM (Ex92-2E)
by Rapid Bay Just Wait is a noted Show winner being Exhibitor
bred Champion at this years Dairy Farming Event and having
calved in July sold for 2000 gns to the Reader family
of Barnowl Jerseys of Daventry, Northamptonshire. At
just 100 gns les Brian Moorhouse of Skipton, North Yorkshire
purchased the fresh second calver Saxown Sigs Viv 7th
(VG88-3yr) for 1900 gns.
Ashley Fleming was also in the market himself buying
Saxown Resurrection Cash 51st (VG89-4yr), for 1780 gns,
a fresh fourth calf daughter of Rapid Bay Resurrection,
for his Potterswalls Herd at Downpatrick, Northern Ireland.
Barnowl Jerseys were in the market again purchasing another
member of this great family, Saxown BB Cash 56th (Ex92-2E)
for 1750 gns whilst at the same money The Hunter Family
of Shotts, Lanarkshire purchased the fresh third calf
daughter of Molly-Brook Beretta Future, Grahmar Future
Magic (VG85-3yr).
Maiden heifers from Saxown sold to 1050 gns for a daughter
of Altamont MH Fanton selling to Andrea Vale of Beccles,
Suffolk whilst 2011 heifer calves sold to 680 gns for
a four week old calf by Bridon Excitation selling to
the Fleming Family.
The Bar-M reduction topped at 1400 gns for the fresh
heifer Bar-M Iatola Precious selling to W Parry, Caernarfon
and a heifer from Andrew Woodmansey of Beverley, East
Yorkshire, Bramjill McGwire Inga sold for 1750 gns to
Robert Buchanan of Girvan, Ayrshire.
John and Sarah Le Feuvre of the Elite Jersey Herd at
St. Peter, Jersey led the prices from animals consigned
from the Island; their Elite Olivers Columbo, due to
calve in December to Futuredreams Signature Volcano sold
for 1400 gns to John Heath of Ravenfield Jerseys, Hull.
They also sold the twelve month old Iatola daughter,
Elite Aimless Lady 211th in a joint deal to James Evans
of Narberth, Pembrokeshire and Andrew Hurd of Cornwall.
Well bred calves entered into the Kaleidoscope section
of the Sale sold to 980 gns for a daughter of Hollylane
R Simbas Pride from Glanmor Jerseys selling to the Hunter
family of Lanark
