Dispersal Sale of the
Gem and Graceland Jersey herds

Monday 16th September 2013

Pembrokeshire Jerseys to 1,600gns

The dispersal sale of the Gem and Graceland herds of Jersey cattle for Gary, Mair and daughter Halfwen took place on their Pembrokeshire farm near Maenclochog in front of a packed ringside, some of whom had travelled from as far as Middlesex and Northamptonshire to swell the crowd of chiefly Welsh buyers.

Trade for the milking section was very good with a top price of 1,600gns being achieved for the VG87 Hillhoath Mini Ophelia that had calved 7 weeks earlier with her 3rd calf. The successful buyers were G R Griffiths & Son of Clarbeston Road, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

The same buyers paid 1,500gns for the top priced calved heifer, Gem Tresor Amy 1st, which had been calved nearly 4 months.

A total of 17 cattle made 1,000gns or more.

Recently served heifers sold to 720gns and maiden heifers to 600gns.

Heifer calves sold to 550gns for the 5 week old Graceland Guapos Dolly out of an EX92 (3E) dam and a VG86 grand dam. The Glanmor herd of Dafydd and Helen Cox, Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, were the purchasers.

Principal buyers J R & S Howie purchased 23 cattle for their herd at Uxbridge, near London.

Averages:
62 cows and milking heifers £976.00 (with 20 heifer calves at £277.20)
13 recently served heifers £535.50
21 maiden heifers £353.50
96 lots £780.17
