Richtop Jersey Dispersal Sale

Thursday 17th April 2014

Richtop Jerseys to 1700gns!

Kivells Auctioneers dispersed the entire Richtop herd of Pedigree Jerseys on behalf of Messrs SA, BG & A Taylor of Channel Farm, Ilfracombe at Exeter Livestock Centre.

The sale attracted a large crowd of buyers from Wales, Gloucester, Hampshire and all over the Westcountry. An exceptional trade was witnessed especially considering all but 5 cows were stale or dry and many said it was the best sale there had been for some time!

Top of the day was 1700gns for “Richtop Pride Butterpat” a second calver by Potterswalls Belles Pride which was sold due in July to the Davis family of Tiverton for their Rivermead herd.

At 1550gns was “Richtop Mays Cora” by DJ May who was due her third in July, she sold to Andrew & Phillip Cooke of Honiton who purchased 13 for their new herd.

Two cows sold at 1500gns and first to do it was the first cow in the ring “Richtop Whiskeys Sunlight” a fresh second calver by Wattlebrink Whiskey, she sold to the Grose Family of Helston.

Also at 1500gns was the best of the dry cows “Richtop Iatola Asphodel” by SC Gold Dust Paramount Iatola, she was due her fourth in June to Perfecter and sold to Anthony Rew of Newton Abbot.

The in calf heifers sold to an exceptional trade and sold to a top of 1500gns for a DJ May daughter due in May to Supernova. 24 out of 39 In Calf heifers sold for 1100gns or more!

The yearling heifers were certainly a real feature of the sale and created much interest to a top of 620gns for “Richtop Perfecter Corona” an August born calf by Shellen Perfecter, she sold to Oliver Neagle for his Hiltonbury herd in Hampshire.

A group of four heifers by DJ Jante, Holmer & May also sold at 600gns to Alex Wilson-North of Chulmleigh who is establishing a new herd.

Two heifer calves sired by DJ Broiler born in February followed their dams in the sale and sold to an exceptional trade with “Richtop Broiler Finally” topping at 550gns to Simon Bray of Barnstaple for his Southley herd. The other sold at 420gns to Tom Scanlan of Pembrokeshire.

There were 25 buyers present and several buyers left the ring empty-handed unable to meet this very strong trade!
