Annual Golden Opportunity Sale of Pedigree Jerseys

Friday 13th November 2015

Golden Opportunity tops at £1800!

The Golden Opportunity sale of 40 Pedigree Jerseys saw an excellent quality entry forward with vendors travelling from Hertfordshire, Surrey, Carmarthen, Dorset, Somerset, Devon & Cornwall as Exeter Livestock Centre continues to be the leading market for Jersey sales in the country!

With the current milk price crisis in the dairy industry we were unsure what trade to expect but a fantastic trade was seen and buyers travelled far and wide with some going home empty handed as trade was so strong!

A tremendous quality entry of 8 Fresh Cows and Heifers from Barry & Jenny Daw’s famous Bluegrass herd in Hertfordshire topped at £1800 for “Bluegrass Cougars Bramble” a cracking heifer by homebred sire Bluegrass Corrianders Cougar, she sold to Dan & Phillipa Evans of Chulmleigh. Other heifers sold to £1400 for “Bluegrass Excitations Pavannah” by Bridon Excitation and their cows topped at £1420 for a second calver “Bluegrass Vindications Question” by Vindication and others to £1250 & £1220 twice.

Alex Marks of Kingsbridge was rewarded with a super trade with his three “Richtop” bred heifers by Danish DJ Broiler and Legacy which sold at £1380, £1350 & £1320.

Messrs WE Love & Son of Dorset sold a group of fresh heifers following their dispersal at Exeter in September and enjoyed a super trade topping at £1300 for “Westlove Iatola Cassandra” by SC Gold Dust Paramount Iatola, others sold to £1250 & £1100.

Dry Cows sold to £1050 for “Discovery Ernies Ermintrude GP82” a second calver by homebred sire Pierrepont Sambos Ernie which was due in December from Mike & Bev Clear of Surrey.

Jersey youngstock met a selective trade and topped at £400 for a May born calf “Glanmor Warrior Jimjam” by Glanmor Rocket Whiskeys Warrior who sold to Richard Walters of Cornwall. Heifer calves sold to £280 x 3 & £250 x 2 for Messrs WE Eddy & Son of Penzance.
