Dispersal of the entire Swangrove Jersey Cattle Herd

Tuesday 24th May 2016

Swangrove Jerseys to 2000gns!

Kivells Dairy team travelled to South Gloucestershire on Tuesday to disperse the “Swangrove” herd of 185 Pedigree Jerseys on behalf of Messrs Swangrove Farms, part of Badminton Estate. A great crowd of buyers were around the ring from all over the Westcountry, Stafford, Wales and Northern Ireland which ensured an excellent trade!

Top of the day was 2000gns for the much admired “Swangrove Stag Creamy VG87” by Fourcrosses Ontime Stag, she sold due her second in October to Messrs Hollybush Farms of Monmouth. Another great heifer sold at 1500gns for “Swangrove May Innis VG85” by DJ May, she calved in October and sold to volume buyers Andrew & Debbie Lewis for their new herd in North Devon. Another DJ May daughter “Swangrove May Lowi GP84” sold at 1450gns to the same buyer.

Two more heifers sold at 1300gns and many of the best were between 1000-1200gns.

Dry Cows sold to 920gns for a second calver by Senn Sational Paramount Ace. Older cows and second quality were harder to place but overall an excellent trade on the cows with 22 selling over £1000.

In Calf Heifers met an easier trade and topped at 1250gns for “Swangrove Stag Creamy 3” by Fourcrosses Ontime Stag out of a 7000Kgs EX92 Sultan daughter, she sold due in the Autumn to Messrs Robertson & Daughter of Bristol. Many others close to profit sold between 700-750gns.

Bulling Heifers looked decent value for money and topped at 450gns x 5 with others to 440gns.

Yearlings topped at 360gns whilst the heifer calves which followed their dams through the ring were a tremendous trade topping at 300gns for a daughter of the Stockbull Bayview Belvedere Marcus which sold to Colm McBride of Northern Ireland who purchased 18 yearlings and calves. Most of the calves sold between 200-250gns.
