Friday 14th July 2017

Jerseys a flying trade at Exeter!

A cracking entry of 75 Pedigree Jerseys for the first "Summer Gold" sale at Exeter Livestock Centre, Devon saw an outstanding quality entry from seven vendors which attracted a strong crowd of buyers from as far as Pembrokeshire, Derbyshire, Wiltshire and all over the Westcountry and trade was exceptional!

Top of the day was 2100gns for "Blackeyed Endeavour Glamour" sired by Potterswalls Endeavour (Son of Jade) out of 5 generations of VG or EX dams, she sold to Chris Creeper of Axminster and was consigned as part of an exceptional entry from Andy & Phillip Cooke of Honiton who sold others to 1550gns with their 18 heifers averaging £1460.

Bruce, Jenny & Jess Ravenhill-White of Umberleigh sold a cracking consignment of fresh heifers from their "Whitenhill" herd and their best topped at 2000gns for "Whitenhill Aussiegolds Suga" by Australian sire Broadlin Aussiegold, she sold to John Daw of Crediton. Others from this herd sold to 1700gns for "Helford Bluetea Rosehip" by Bluegrass Polly Long Island Iced Tea, this heifer owned by Roger Trewhella sold to Simon Bray for his Southley herd.

Mike & Claire Colwell sold a consignment form their Quintrell herd in Cornwall and their best sold to 1800gns for "Quintrell Willow Orange" an EX third calver by a homebred son of DJ May, a grand-daughter of the renowned Quintrell PJSM Ultra Marine EX95 (7), she sold to 1800gns to James Warren of Penzance for his Cardinney herd. Others from this herd sold to 1480gns for a fifth calver & 1450gns for a third calver.

Barry & Jenny Daw sold a consignment of milky cows from their first class Bluegrass herd in Hertfordshire to a top of 1650gns for "Ansom I Pod Eldoret VG85", sired by Lencrest I Pod this second calver was purchased as a yearling off the Island and sold fresh giving 34Kgs to John Daw, "Bluegrass Bombers Sally VG85" a second calver by a homebred sire backed by 4 generations of VG & EX sold at 1600gns to the same buyer and a third calver from the same herd sold at 1550gns.

A consignment of spring calving cows from Andy & Phillip Cooke sold well to a top of 1000gns three times. In Calf Heifers topped at 1380gns for a smart heifer "Quintrell Excitation Kestrel" by Bridon Excitation from Mike & Claire Colwell. Three bulling heifers sold to 480gns apiece for Edward Gray of Hampshire whilst heifer calves topped at 300gns from Whitenhill with others to 270gns for Quintrell x 3.
