Jersey’s In High Demand at Carlisle Pedigree Dairy Day

Wednesday 22nd August 2018

catalogueThe Jersey’s on offer were excellent quality with only a small number in milk followed by some special in-calf heifers and heifer calves. The Howie family from Wellhouse Farm, Stranraer sold eight Jerseys many from show winning and deep cow families. They topped the trade with Wellhouse Topeka Sally selling for 2,100gns going to Hannah Graham from Hillhead Farm, Annan. Sally was sired by Topeka and bred from the 2011 Stranraer Interbreed Champion Wellhouse Ringmaster Sally EX91.

Miss Graham also purchased Wellhouse Shine Spry for 2,050gns. Spry was due to calve in September and was sired by Freeman Blackstone Shine, her fourth dam was Tixall Paramounts Spry EX94 who bred the 2014 Royal Highland and the 2015 Dumfries Champion by Festival and Action respectively.

In-calf heifers were in demand, they averaged £1726 with a nice consignment of Danish Jerseys from J&W Baillie, Hillhead topping at 1,900gns. Tinto Hama Beatrix was sired by Hickey Hama and was due in October to Link (sexed).

In a short period of time the Pye family have developed the BAYVIEW pedigree Jersey herd into one of the most highly regarded herds in the UK. The herd has won the Lancashire Milk Records & Lakes Large Herd competition for the last number of years and the opportunity to buy 30 bulling heifers was relished by breeders from across the UK.

The Bayview heifers all displayed massive potential and topped at 1,300gns for Bayview Tequila Hope. She was sired by top type sire Tower Vue Prime Tequila and bred from six generations of cows to either classify Excellent or Very Good with butterfat close to 7% and protein over 4%. This ultra stylish heifer was purchased by Messrs Nuttall, Blackburn. The Nuttall family also purchased Bayview Tequila Parade for 1,200gns.

Martin King from N.Ireland purchased Bayview Fizz Thistle for 1,200gns. She was sired by J-Kay Tequila Fizz tracing back to a special third dam, Shellen Progress Thistle EX94 3E.
