The Glanmor Dispersal of Pedigree Jersey & Guernsey Cattle

Breed Records Smashed in Wales!

Kivells Dairy team travelled to West Wales to conduct the On-Farm dispersal of the Glanmor Herd of 260 Pedigree Jerseys & Guernseys on behalf of Dafydd, Helen & Tanwen Cox on Monday 16th September 2019.

Glanmor Sale

The sale attracted a huge crowd from all over the UK and Ireland and saw a phenomenal trade from start to finish with 18 over £2000!

A new breed record was set for a Guernsey at 4000gns and with the exception of one small dispersal of 17 Jerseys in the past this is the highest sale average achieved for a herd of this size with 125 cows levelling at £1503!

The sale topped at 5500gns for the much admired “Glanmor Bruce Disney VG88” a stunning heifer by Vermular Bruce, this heifer who is due in November to Matt sold into a Shropshire herd. At 3400gns was “Glanmor Warrior Feather EX92” a third calver by Glanmor Rocket Whiskeys Warrior backed by three excellent dams, she sold to the Davis Family, Devon for their Rivermead herd. A super second calver “Glanmor Vanahlem Almond VG88” by Panoo Abe Vanahlem, sold due in January to Casino to an undisclosed buyer in Scotland. Close behind at 2600gns was the “Glanmor Impression Volvic VG87” by Rock Ella Impression, this heifer was Champion heifer in milk at the Royal Welsh this year and sold due in February to Casino.

At 2400gns was “Glanmor Jebb Elisha VG87” by Irishtowns B127 Iatola Jebb, this heifer went back to Huronia Imperial Elsie EX92 and sold due in February to Craze to Mark Logan of Northern Ireland. Also going to Northern Ireland was “Glanmor Colton Icecream VG86” by Chilli Action Colton, she sold backed with 3 excellent dams at 2250gns to Jack King. Her May born heifer calf by Wilsonview If Matt sold well at 680gns.

Richard Saxby has housed a few of his well-bred “Saxown” bred animals at Parcgwyn and he sold an outstanding heifer “Saxown Barcelona Cash 97” by FDL Barcelona at 2200gns to Mr R Fletcher of Cardigan. One of the stars in the herd was “Glanmor Cavalia Hawaii EX92” by Lencrest Cavalia, she sold fresh a month at 2200gns to volume buyer Messrs Edgar & Son of Kent who purchased 45 head to establish a new herd.

In Calf Heifers topped at 1250gns for “Glanmor Barcelona Firestick” by FDL Barcelona, this heifer sold five months In Calf to Mike & Lynn Robertson of Bristol. Heifers just recently served sold very well between 900-1050gns and the empty heifers also met strong demand topping at 2000gns for a cracking heifer “Glanmor Dazzler Fiji” by Sunset Canyon Dazzler, this heifer was daughter of the 3400gns Feather and after some spirited bidding she sold to Jack King. The daughter of the top priced animal “Glanmor Mclung Deer” a November born calf by homebred bull Glanmor Warrior Clan Mclung sold well at 1500gns to James Warren & Family of Penzance. An October born heifer “Glanmor Casino Spooky” backed by 4 generations of excellent dams sold well at 1350gns to Richard Saxby. Heifer calves sold after their dams sold to an electric trade topping at 850gns for a May born calf “Glanmor Matt Rollercoaster” which was out of a show cow “Glanmor Wizard Rest EX92”. Others sold to 720gns, 700gns twice and 680gns twice.

A small herd of Guernseys had been established over the last few years and Glanmor had been home to the breeds first two EX96 cows of which one was in the sale. The Guernseys saw a new breed record of 4000gns which was given for “Glanmor Legend Okapi VG89” a beautiful second calver by Coulee Crest Grumpy Legend, she sold to Duncan Dawes Farms LTD of Banbury along with her maternal sister “Glanmor Python Okapi H86” by Lindrian Python at 3200gns and their dam “Glanmor Hercules Okapi EX96” at 2400gns. Brymor Westward 50 EX92” a third calver by Dairyman Mint Phonze sold well at 1800gns to David Mann of Penzance for his Trewey herd. The daughter of the 4000gns cow “Glanmor Levi Okapi” by Marodore Aarons Levi sold recently served at 2300gns also to Duncan Dawes. “Glanmor Python West” sold served at 2000gns to Colin Evans of Carmarthen. The daughter of the world famous “Briddlesford Laredos Bluebell EX96” by Idle Gold J King Caspian sold at 1600gns to Neil, Kim & Laura Sales of Somerset for their Avalon herd. The three month old bull calf “Glanmor Nico Odin” out of the Legend Okapi sold at 600gns to David Mann.

This has to be one of the greatest sales to have taken place for both the Jersey & Guernsey breeds in a very long time which has produced the following outstanding averages:
