2004 Jersey Cattle Society Young Members
Weekend
20th - 22nd August 2004
Young members from as far afield as Northern Ireland, Aberystwyth
and Cornwall descended on Mill Farm, Osberton in Nottinghamshire
for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend when they learnt about the
industry, improved their stockmanship skills and gave us all
great encouragement that the future of the breed and the industry
is in the hands of highly confident and motivated youngsters.
 |
| John Dickenson demonstrates
showmanship and handling techniques. During each group
every member acted as a judge and commented on the techniques
of others. |
From a quiz on animal health to identifying feed raw materials
to calculating a balanced ration for the Jersey milking cow,
the young members’ knowledge
was tested on the important issues as well as light hearted topics like a ‘Jumbled
Prefix’ quiz, all of which made the weekend go with a
swing.

| Tom Downes is transfixed as
he watches Ashley Fleming prepare a ‘topline’ in
readiness for a professional photo-shoot |
It takes a team of upto six
people to get a perfect picture in the can. Co-ordination,
attention to detail, and a great deal of time are the factors
that make for a successful shoot. |
