John Stubbs awarded his "Towns Ultimate Honour"

Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather and Great Grandfather, John Stubbs will toss the ball away from the plinth at Shaw Croft, Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football match on Ash Wednesday.

John's career showing his "Coldeaton" Jersey herd spans some 50 years during which he has had great success. With sport being his other passion in life it is all the more appropriate that John has been recognised with this honour for his contribution to the community.

Below is a photograph of the ball personalised especially for John, depicting his beloved Jersey breed. Congratulations John, we very much hope you enjoy your day.

The Jersey Cattle Society’s 133rd Annual General Meeting and Herd Visit

The Society’s 133rd AGM took place on Tuesday 23rd August 2016 in Devon with a herd visit to Sowden Jerseys, who were celebrating their Herd's Diamond Jubilee. It was great to share this celebration with Malcolm, Ann and Ian Huxtable on such a glorious days sunshine, before heading to the Best Western Hotel in Tiverton for lunch and the AGM.

The AGM saw the welcome of two new board members, Mark Davis & Mark Logan, and the re-election of existing board Member, Helen Cox. Lena Lewis was welcomed as President Elect to support Su Mahon as President.

The Society Awards for the Milk Production Competition (year 2014-2015) then featured highly with the following Jersey Herds taking home awards for their milk production. Congratulations to Wisteria, Bluegrass, Ritherdens, Fourcrosses, Berwick, Elmdon, Winkland and Blodwell Jerseys. The Weydown Trophy, awarded to the member who has contributed the most to the breed in the past year, was awarded to Mr David Shaw (Greyleys) for his tremendous work and time given as past Society President, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 2016 WJCB tour and as hosts of the 2016 Young Members Weekend.

Following the AGM the focus changed to the future strategy and direction for the Society, including two excellent talks on genomics and genomic testing for Society Members from Marco Winters (AHDB) and Dr Jack Behan (Bio-genesys).

Following the AGM the new Board met to appoint the Chairman and Director Roles. The following appointments were made: Society Chairman - Steven Bland, Finance - John Whitby, Herdbook & Breed Development - Ashley Fleming, Commercial - John Dickinson, Membership - Helen Cox, Judges, Shows & Sales - Mark Logan and Youth - Mark Davis.

A big thank you needs to go too Members who attended this year’s AGM, our hosts Malcolm and Ann Huxtable, and of course to our kind supporters and sponsors: Kivells Auctioneers, Crediton Milling, Natwest Banking and Page Concrete & Steel. Thank you.

A full update will follow in next edition of the Society’s publication ‘The UKJT’.
