Christmas Message

Derrick Frigot - President, WJCB

As we enter Christmas week, I wish you and your family very best wishes for Christmas and a happy, prosperous and healthy 2012.

This past year has been an interesting one for the Jersey breed and the World Jersey Cattle Bureau. Indications from around the world show that the Jersey is enjoying increased popularity that bodes well for the future.

Last February, many Jersey breeders from around the world enjoyed the generous hospitality of our New Zealand friends. They skillfully demonstrated the potency and aptitude of the New Zealand Jersey and the admirable lifestyle she provided her owners. It was an impressive visit for the tourists, with an enlightening conference programme that generated enthusiasm in all who attended. Again, I thank our New Zealand hosts for their preparation and staging of the 19th World Jersey Cattle Bureau conference … “Hooked on Jerseys”.

As we move towards 2012, may I remind all our members that next year’s Council Meetings and tours will be in Colombia, starting on June 1st. 2012 and preceded by a visit to Guatemala. Please note the arrival date in Colombia as this has been changed recently … it is now Friday, June 1st.2012. The organizing committees in Colombia and in Guatemala have worked hard to present very interesting and exciting tours and I encourage all to attend this rare opportunity to see the Jersey breed in these Latin American countries.

The history book compiled by Hans Norgaard of Denmark is currently being edited and will be completed and available to all Jersey breeders in the coming months. It is an extensive and comprehensive history of the global Jersey breed that will appeal to all dairymen.

This book is being sponsored by the WJCB and I am grateful to those breed associations and individuals who have already generously given funds to make it happen! The most recent donation comes from the RJA&HS in Jersey who have indicated their “Gold” sponsorship, which is greatly appreciated. I make no excuses for appealing to all to consider making a donation so that we can bring this valuable work to fruition.

I look forward to seeing many of you in the coming year and send my best wishes to all involved with the Jersey cow.

Yours sincerely

Derrick Frigot

President, WJCB
