A certificate of Star Brood Status will be awarded to pedigree
Jersey cows in recognition of their contribution to Breed Development
through the Production and Type achievements of their progeny.
Awards
Awards will be made by the Jersey Cattle Society, following
an application being made by the breeder of a potential Star
Brood Cow, and will be based on points awarded to the achievements
of the dams progeny.
Points will be awarded following each MDC Breeding Plus genetic
evaluation proof run, three times every year.
One Star is awarded for every 8 points that each dam’s
progeny achieves.
In addition, if any of the progeny achieve
Star status in their own right, then an additional 2 points
will be awarded for the first Star plus 1 point for subsequent
Stars, from every Star-rated offspring.
Each time an application is made and a Star, or additional
Stars, is awarded, a new pedigree certificate will be issued
which records the Star status.
The pinnacle of achievement is the Gold Star Brood
Cow Award presented when a minimum of 40 points
is achieved.
Gold Star Brood Cows will have their achievement
marked by the presentation of a commemorative certificate to
the breeder.
Fee – a fee of £10 + vat will
be charged to the breeder each time an award is made.
